Functional requirements type CEV



The Mosbaek CEV flow controllers meet the following functional requirements, which may therefore be specified in invitations for tenders:


  • Constantly large orifice opening


  • Infinitely adjustable inlet orifice plate with marking for correct setting


  • Fitting on a wedge clutch for mounting and dismounting from ground level


  • Maximum contraction effect in the inlet


  • Cascade effect in the inlet at an orifice opening of Ø75

Flexible solution

There is a CEV flow regulator for any capacity between 3 and 1270 GPM (~0.2 l/s and 80 l/s) – see diagram – designed for small and moderate volumes of storm water and certain types of industrial sewage.


The capacity is infinitely adjustable by means of a patented adjustment plate in the inlet. In the mean position the inlet opening may be adjusted to ±20% of the capacity. Besides, the flow controller has a replaceable outlet orifice for further adjustment of the capacity.

The CEV regulator is provided with a coupling (wedge coupling) and lifting rod enabling comfortable and clean installation and dismounting from ground level. Consequently, inspections, service or capacity changes may be carried out under hygienic conditions considering the working environment. Actually, it is the only flow regulator of its kind on the market, which can be adjusted on site without the use of replacement parts.


If the regulator is provided with a closed coupling claw on the front, the following features will be obtained:


  • Throttle effect when installed in normal position.
  • Blocking when turned through 180° about a vertical axis. For instance, this application may be advantageous in case of a tank truck accident.
  • Bypass when dismounted/lifted off.

The design of the CEV has been changed and the product range has been extended to comprise approx. 70 versions, meaning that ideal characteristics may be obtained in almost any case. The regulator ensures that the flow, Q, is almost constantly equal to the nominal capacity, Qdim, over a large interval of upstream heads, H. This means that the capacity, Qdim, may be obtained at the top of the “bump” of the characteristics as well as at the design point. This may be seen on the CEV characteristic curve.


The detailed shaping of the inlet results in a strong contraction of the inlet jet resulting in an increase of the braking effect of approx. 25% as well as a larger orifice opening as compared with certain plagiarisms.

Low operating, maintenance and initial costs

The CEV flow regulators offer the following advantages:

  • Constantly large orifice opening
  • No movable parts
  • No electrical components
  • Made of stainless, acid-resistant steel AISI 316L

Thus, the operating and maintenance costs may be kept to a minimum.


Low initial costs are obtained, as usually the CEV may be installed in existing wells; however, a sump will be required.

Generally the CEV flow regulators are used in connection with:

  • Draining of roof surfaces
  • Temporary storage in upstream sewer systems
  • Inlets to oil separators
